November 8, 2005 12:43 - Galactica on Video on Demand by NBC & CBS (Ad free TV for 99 cents an episode)

This article just appeared on the SciFiWire:

Galactica To Video-On-Demand

NBC Universal struck a deal with DirecTV to allow viewers to pay to watch current prime-time broadcast hits just hours after they air for free, including SCI FI Channel's Battlestar Galactica , according to The Hollywood Reporter.

NBC will charge 99 cents per episode to access such series as Surface, putting a twist on the traditional TV business model that will have untold implications for industry sectors ranging from affiliates to advertisers for years to come, the trade paper reported. The news coincides with a similar announcement from CBS and Comcast and follows a widely reported deal between ABC and Apple's iPod.

NBC's commercial-free deal with DirecTV will cover not only NBC shows such as the Law & Order series, but also a few shows on its cable networks, including USA Network. The NBC-DirecTV programming will be available only to subscribers who purchase the new DirecTV Plus Interactive DVR, which will begin rolling out in stores and online during the next few months. NBC Universal owns SCIFI.COM.

November 8, 2005 13:37 - Katee Sackhoff on Dirk Benedict

Katee Sackhoff, aka Starbuck, chats about how fans of the series have gradually come to accept her in the role - and spills the beans on her feud with the original Starbuck.
The hate mail has slowed to a trickle, but there was a time when Katee Sackhoff was the most hated woman in Sci-Fi. When Starbuck was re-imagined as a woman for the new version of Battlestar Galactica the actress soon realized there were a lot of fans who were going to take the sex change very personally.

The angry reaction was already pouring in before she even flew her first Viper, but over the course of the year the hate mail has begun to die out. "I did get it for a while, people were just really mad," Sackhoff comments. "There was a side of me that wanted to get on the Internet and slam back and say ‘Kiss my ass’. But if they remade Indiana Jones with a woman I’d be mad, so I have to put myself in their shoes, and go, ‘I guess I get it’.

November 14, 2005 16:38 - Ron Moore Blogs about Michael Piller

Ron Moore wrote the following:

I first met Michael Piller in July of 1989. I sat in the outer office of his suite in the Hart Building on the Paramount lot with a white pad on my lap filled with my illegible scrawl which contained the seeds of the half-dozen stories I planned to sell to “Star Trek: The Next Generation” that very day and which would no doubt launch my career that very afternoon even though my spec script, “The Bonding,” had yet to be actually, technically, purchased, much less produced. I sat there and waited nervously for what would be my very first official Hollywood pitch session, having little idea of exactly what I was supposed to do or say and even less notion of what might follow after. Eventually, the door opened, and I was ushered into Michael’s office, where a tall man wearing an LA Dodgers’ ballcap, sneakers and a loose-fitting button-down shirt, stood up behind his desk and greeted me with a broad smile as he shook my hand.

November 14, 2005 16:50 - Another Clash Of Battlestar-sized Egos

Author: Scott Nance
Date: 11-14-2005

Here we go again.

We thought we had settled the classic-versus-new "Battlestar Galactica" feud, but it's crept back.

Richard Hatch, the original Apollo from the 1978 series may have resolved his differences with the new regime, but now we're left with the battle of the Starbucks.

All of this dissension is making the BSG set look more like the Middle East and less like a television production. (We can only hope the old and new Boomers--Herb Jefferson and Grace Park, respectively--don't decide to start their own battle royale.)

In this latest controversy, Katee Sackhoff, who plays Starbuck on the new show, apparently said she won't consider appearing with Dirk Benedict, who played the original version on the original series.

"If Dirk pitched up to work on the show, I'd probably quit," she's quoted as saying in a magazine interview. "I met him in Los Angeles, and I thought we'd really hit it off. He was a great guy. He was very complimentary and very un-Hollywood."

"Then he turned around a month later and talked complete crap about the show and the actors on it," she continued. "He wrote an article saying the network sold out and my character was more brash than his character."

"I felt like he'd stabbed me in the back. I know that sounds like me being very sensitive, but I felt very befriended by him, then I read that about a month later," she added.

Actors are famous for their big egos; it's one of the reasons such folks are drawn to the profession. (To be fair, the egos of scifi columnists are only proportionally smaller.)

On the one hand, Sackhoff's comments are refreshingly honest . . .

November 16, 2005 15:54 - News on Season 2.2 airdates & new spoilers for 2.11

The official airdate for the start of the second half of season two is up at Gateworld- Jan 6th!!!

There are new spoilers for episode 2.11 are up at Gateworld The mid-season opener is now a two-parter. There are still be 20 episodes total in Season Two.

2.11 is now called "Resurrection Ship Part 1" and 2.12 is titled "Resurrection Ship -Part 2".
The episode has been expanded after they decided to put the Cylon POV episode "Downloaded" on hold (2.17 ?? Rumour has it that this episode dealt with a "Boomer" model who received Galactica-Boomer's memories, following her shooting.

Lucy Lawless is also back for two episodes in the last half of the season, one of which was "Downloaded". Supposedly her part has been saved and will be bought into another episode as a B-storyline.

This would mean that the line up for season 2.2 is: (probably - we don't guarantee anything)

  • 2.11 = Resurrection Ship Part 1
  • 2.12 = Resurrection Ship Part 2
  • 2.13 = Epiphanies
  • 2.14 = Scar
  • 2.15 = Sacrifice
  • 2.16 = ?The Captain's Hand
  • 2.17 = Unknown = was originally Downloaded
  • 2.18 = Unknown
  • 2.19 = Unknown
  • 2.20 = Season Finale

The big season finale kicks off in "The Captain's Hand" with a Cylon Attack on the Pegasus. Looks like we are getting another multi-arc storyline. The season finale is a cliff-hanger

Pictures from 2.11 have started appearing at Dark Thoughts

In other news: Hollywood North Report was given access to the set for episodes 2.19 & 2.20, and information from those episodes will be appearing on their website in the next few weeks. There are also three promo shots over at Dark Thoughts as well for Resurrection Ship.
